Seven, aka Seven-3, is a local DJ with a mission to elevate Houston’s electronic music scene and bring that raw energy back to the city. What began as DJing at small kickbacks has grown into headlining some of the city’s most popular underground events. His journey wasn’t built overnight—driven by a passion for music and a commitment to building meaningful connections, Seven has worked relentlessly to get to where he is now.

Humble beginnings 

Sevens journey started back in 2022, with the help of one of his fathers friends , a dj himself , who introduced him to the craft. What started with casual kickbacks and learning the ropes soon evolved into something much bigger. “I had my own equipment before I even realized what was happening,” Seven reflects. Around the same time, he started attending local DDS parties, which changed his perspective on the city and the music scene. This exposure was transformative. It wasn’t just about enjoying the music—it was about understanding the culture, the raw energy, and the people that made it come alive. Seven knew from that moment on that he wanted to be a part of it , he wanted to be a part of that movement.

A major turning point for sevens career was when his friend Nariah gave him the opportunity to DJ for a group called FEVERDREAM [shout out to Nariah]. That moment helped establish his place in the scene and kickstarted what would become an exciting career. Throughout it all, Seven has been backed by his closest supporters—his family, mom, sister, and friends—whose unwavering support has been crucial to his journey , something he never takes for granted.

The Motivation Behind the Music

When it comes to what motivates him to create music, Seven shared a simple yet meaningful response - the beauty of the music itself. "Being able to curate your own vibe and make it blend together, having other people enjoy it—that’s the best feeling you can have," he says. DJing isn’t just about spinning tracks; it’s about crafting an experience. It’s about sharing a story through sound and creating a connection with the crowd.

Sevens thought process when DJing is all about the ENERGY. Whether it’s in the studio or on the stage, he’s constantly thinking about how to keep the crowd engaged and the vibes high. He loves creating high-energy openings, especially when playing at peak times. The emotions he pours into his mixes are unrecognizable, as he draws from both the crowd’s energy and his own passion for the music. "I put my whole heart into it," he shares.

Feeding Off the Crowd

As any DJ knows, live performances are about more than just technical skill. It’s about creating a shared experience between the DJ and the crowd. Seven has a unique way of connecting with his audience. “I feed off them. If they’re giving me great energy, I give it right back through the music,” he explains. He also enjoys hyping up the crowd on the mic, bringing a sense of unity and excitement to the space.

Despite the adrenaline of playing for large crowds, Seven thrives in the pressure. “It can definitely be a lot when the booth is shaking and the house is full, but it’s so electrifying,” he says. For him, the intensity of the moment is part of what makes DJing so special. He matches the crowd's energy just perfectly.

Memorable Moments

When asked about his favorite event so far, Seven looks back on UNTITLED 1.25, a Brazilian funk-focused event. The night was filled with high-energy beats and vibrant crowd interaction that left a lasting impression on him. The room was alive with an infectious energy—people were dancing, moving, and following along with the  rhythm, creating a connection with his audience solely through music. “A room packed with dancing and constant energy is the best thing a DJ can ask for,” Seven reflects.

For him, this event wasn’t just about playing music; it was a reminder of why he does what he does. It captured the essence of his craft—the deep connection between the DJ and the crowd, where the music becomes a shared experience rather than just a performance. The crowd’s energy and enthusiasm pushed Seven to bring even more to his set, feeding off the crowd’s energy.

What made UNTITLED 1.25 so special was the sense of unity it created. “The joy of sharing my sound and seeing people connect to it, that’s what makes it all worth it,” he says. For Seven, moments like these are a reminder of why he’s dedicated to growing Houston’s electronic music scene and bringing this kind of energy to the people and to the city.

Whos your favorite pick of djs right now? 

When it comes to my favorite DJ at the moment, it’s a tough call. I’ve been to so many amazing events with incredibly talented DJs. But if I had to pick a recent top 5 (in no particular order), I’d go with Jorge Estrada, Amarji, King, LZRCAT, Espee, and Emiphnx. Each one brings something unique to the table.

Exploring New Sounds

Although Seven has found his groove in genres like house music and Brazilian funk, he’s not one to limit himself. "I try to be as diverse as I can," he says. Dance music, in all its forms, has captured his heart, and he’s open to exploring new sounds, always eager to push his own boundaries and discover new rhythms. However, it’s clear that house music, with its versatility and high-energy beats, perfectly reflects Seven’s own style and personality.

While he’s carved out a strong identity within the scene, Seven is always looking to expand his reach. “I feel like I’ve found my crowd, and the people who enjoy the music I play have found me,” he explains. But that doesn’t mean he’s stopping there. He’s continuously looking for new opportunities to grow and reach wider audiences.

Growing Presence of DJs in Media

Seven has witnessed firsthand the shift in DJ culture, particularly as dance music and electronic sounds have become more mainstream. When he first started, rap music and underground hip-hop dominated the scene, and DJs were often relegated to a supporting role. But with the rise of house music and other electronic genres, DJs have become central figures in the music world.

“I can only be happy about the increase in creativity and the rise of new DJs and producers,” Seven says. The shift has brought about more opportunities for innovation, and it’s clear that Seven is excited to be a part of this evolving movement. He is ready to bring his own style and unique ways into the new scene.

Staying True to Himself

For many DJs, performing in front of large crowds can be daunting. But for Seven, it’s a thrill. He  finds excitement in expressing himself through his art. “I get excited when I know I’m about to play in front of hundreds of people,” he shares. This passion for performing, combined with his commitment to always keep pushing forward, means Seven is not only building a name for himself but is also inspiring others to follow their dreams. Despite the pressure and the rollercoaster of emotion when facing a big crowd he's put that aside and stayed true to his passion. 

The Bigger Picture

Seven’s ultimate goal is to expand Houston’s electronic music culture and bring fresh energy to the city. “I want to bring that energy back to our city,” he says. Beyond performing, he hopes to inspire the youth and educate them about new sounds they may have never heard before. As he continues to grow his career, Seven has taken the plunge into full-time DJing, running events like UNTITLED, and learning to produce his own tracks.

The journey has been transformative. “Being a DJ has definitely opened my eyes to different cultures and just how big the world is,” Seven reflects. He remains focused on his path, determined to never stop growing and learning. "I keep pushing always."

Putting yourself out there, Advice for Aspiring DJs

If Seven could go back in time and give advice to his younger self, he would tell himself to stop being afraid to put himself out there. “Network, network, network,” he says. “Be everywhere, make yourself known, talk to everyone, put yourself out there—you’ll get noticed.” For anyone looking to pursue DJing or wanting to pursue anything , his message is clear: invest in yourself , be present, and never stop believing in your craft.
